Cabinet card photographs became popular in the 1880s through the 1890s. At 4.5 x 6.5 inches, cabinet cards were significantly larger than images in the earlier carte de visite (CDV) format. Like CDVs, cabinet card photographers often used card mounts which had elaborate advertising on the back.
